PITTSBURGH - Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh will open its ReStore at a new location, 1913 Monongahela Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15218 in the Swissvale Shopping Center. The ReStore is Habitat for Humanity’s retail operation which generates income to fund Habitat’s programs through the resale of donated home improvement and other items. The much anticipated grand opening of the space will take place at 10am on Saturday, October 22nd. The store hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10am - 4pm.

Dr. Howard B. Slaughter, Jr., President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh, stated: “The expansion of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh's ReStore will allow us to offer the general public a larger selection of new and quality used furniture, appliances, building materials and other products at far less than retail prices. Proceeds from the sale of these items are used to support Habitat's mission of providing homes for sale and home repairs for individuals and families throughout Allegheny County, which helps reduce blight, increases stability for the homeowner and strengthens neighborhoods.”

Ryan Durkopp, ReStore manager, says, “It’s been great seeing new and familiar faces as we prepare the new facility. The community is very excited to have us in the area. With a space nearly three times larger than our previous location, we will be able to offer more products to consumers. Our shoppers can get the same materials they might find at many other stores for as little as 10% of the price. With a steady flow of donations daily, there is always something new at the ReStore.”

The ReStore has been in operation since 2011 and is the only ReStore in Allegheny County. The ReStore will now include upholstered items through a partnership with Levin Furniture. It is well-known in the area for its selection of non-upholstered furniture, appliances, area rugs, household materials (including plumbing, windows, toilets, and more), tools, and a variety of unique items that are donated daily. The ReStore provides an environmentally and socially responsible way to keep good, reusable materials out of the waste stream.

Really enjoyed reading this update. It’s inspiring to see initiatives like the ReStore expanding and creating even more opportunities for the community to support affordable housing while also promoting reuse and sustainability. The idea of turning donated materials into funding for homes is such a powerful model. I recently came across a similar discussion about community initiatives on a review blog https://grandoaksorthodontics.com/, and it was interesting to see how different organizations are finding creative ways to give back. Thanks for sharing this positive news and the impact it will have locally.
